John Parry


After completing a strenuous but rewarding maternity leave replacement with a tribal council in Balmertown, Ontario, John moved to Saskatoon. Supported by family, friends, and a strong community spirit John has held a variety of offices in Saskatoon, such as:

  • Chair, UNAC (United Nations Association of Canada) - Saskatoon
  • Vice-chair, Saskatoon Heritage Society
  • Chair, 3rd Avenue United Church
  • Member, Saskatoon Peace Coalition
  • Secretary, then Treasurer of Discovery Park condominiums

His wife, Rosanna, has concentrated on her photography and has now shot 110 weddings. Eventually, both their daughters, Ann and Esther, joined with them in Saskatoon. In 2006 and 2010 he represented Saskatchewan at the Canada Senior Games, winning three medals in each occasion in swimming events. He recently retired as executive director of two non-profit organizations.

Being an NDP candidate for Kenora—Rainy River four times, and candidate in Saint Boniface twice, John Parry demonstrates both leadership and experience. He was the director of rural development in South-West Saskatchewan and has held a variety of offices in many organizations:

  • Former Finance Director, Keewaytinook Okimakanak Tribal Council
  • Ten years as a management consultant
  • Member of Parliament, Kenora-Rainy River 1984 to 1988
  • Former District Director, Indian & Northern Affairs Canada
  • Mayor of Sioux Lookout, Ontario from 1978 to 1984
  • M.B.A. School of Business, University of Western Ontario
  • Wide experience in democratic and economic development, municipal leadership, voluntary organizations, small business and Aboriginal affairs
  • The founding president of the Sioux Lookout Flying Club.
